Squad Goals

This year's Hom 100 is going to be a bit different. Being injured means I'll have to rely on my crew to help me bank the normal 62 miles. Everyone is encouraged to put together a team - friends, family or coworkers will work just fine. Team up and put in some miles. What ever each person does gets added up so that your cumulative total is compared to every other team participating.

For example:

Team member 1 does 20 miles
Team member 2 does 3 miles
Team member 3 does 12 miles
----------------------------------------
Team total = 35 miles

So rally your squad and get ready to put in some miles. Remember, we don't care if you're running, walking, riding or crab-crawling so long as you're not on a motorized or electric vehicle (e.g., must be human-powered).

Comment below if you know who's on your squad. Don't forget a cool team name either!!

Prizes will be given out for:

  1. Most miles
  2. Fewest miles
  3. Best costumes
  4. Best team name
  5. Largest team

The Goodness of People

The generosity and kindness of others never ceases to amaze me. Admittedly, this years fundraising has been a little slower, but I love the fact that even those people who didn't know Tony are donating to help us fight ALS.

I recently attended an Afternoon of Hope at the Arizona ALS Chapter office in Phoenix and though it was a solemn reminder of what the disease has taken, it is also an inspiration to see so many people all rallied behind giving whatever they can - either time or money - to defeat this cowardly disease.

I'm fortunate to be surround by great people here in Phoenix. Fellow runners and business owners who are gracious enough to give their time and resources to support the Hom 100 and the ALS Association of Arizona. I can't say enough good things about all these folks - I personally know each one of them and not only are they upstanding individuals, but they run their businesses with integrity and passion. Please take the time to thank them personally or give them your business if you have the chance.

Cadence Running Company

I'm happy to announce that Cadence Running Company has come on board to help sponsor the Hom100!! There is absolutely no way we'll be short of nutritional products this Saturday...

Since moving to the East Valley (Gilbert) 6 years ago, I have never found a great place to find all the running supplies or brands that I needed for training and racing. It wasn't until I happened to be driving by the NE corner of Gilbert and Pecos that I noticed a new sign for Cadence Running Company. Intrigued, I stopped in to check the place out and introduced myself to the owner, Dan Beaver.

Cadence carries just about anything you will need for running. As an Kona (Ironman) and Boston qualifier, Dan knows a thing or two about shoes, nutrition and hydration. As you can see below, they carry a full line-up from Brooks, INOV-8, Saucony, Nike and Newton just to name a few...They won't let you leave the store unless you feel awesome in your new shoes!

If you're looking for other gear, they've got you covered as well - nutrition, hydration, magazines and gear to keep you safe.
Free your mind
"time" for a Garmin
Don't bonk...
Hydrate!

As you can see, Cadence has everything!

It also goes without saying that Dan and everyone else at Cadence has a good heart and considers giving back to both the local and running community a natural extension of how they do business. Please stop by and thank them if you get the chance.

Thanks again to Dan and Cadence for helping sponsor the Hom100.

A little help from my friends

I'm excited to announce that Fulton Homes has decided to help sponsor the Hom100!

When we first moved here, we didn't know Fulton from any other builder, but our agent assured us they were one of the best in the Phoenix are. We fell in love with our floor plan, the location and outstanding amenities that were offered throughout the community.

Let's face it - had we moved anywhere else, we would have never met Tony, Jodi and their 3 wonderful kids.

Six years later, we've weathered the real estate storm and have watched Fulton continue to invest in our community and the completion of the Freeman Farms subdivision.
I'm extremely thankful to Fulton for their participation in the Hom100 and their support of the ALS Association of Arizona. Check out Fulton's blog post about the run here.

There is also one invariable truth about (ultra)runners too. We may be crazy, but we're one big crazy family. Below are several folks that make up my Arizona ultra-running family and have committed to donating their time, energy and leg-power to come out and participate in the Hom100. These are folks who don't know even know Tony Hom and yet are willing to go the distance to fight this horrible disease and show their support for the entire Hom family.

I realize there will be other neighbors and friends that will join us and I want to acknowledge them too. We couldn't do it without you.
